Winter Storm MARCUS and Winter Storm NEPTUNE

I'm still buzzing over the Superbowl win. Sorry. I suppose I need to let that go and move on. And I will if the Bruins get their shit together soon enough. Otherwise, I will be gloating and remembering the season that made us all believers again.

I did order the "Three Games To Glory" DVD. It's the DVD where each and every single play of the three play-off games are shown and discussed at length. I know I know. Hey I'm a fan. I mean come on. We won four superbowls!

But let's move on to what everybody else is talking about. The snow.

This is the view out my front door. That is the top of my JEEP Commander. I'm guessing my Commander is at least 6' plus high. Clearly these snow banks are taller. The last storm MARCUS was quite a storm. And this new one? NEPTUNE? Well he just added insult to injury. Another foot and a half to the already 3 and half feet. Things are getting tight here in Ole Hampton.

The one saving grace of all these storms has been the fact that they have all been the light powdery type snow. In other words, easier to shovel and blow. Same with the big plows. They are having an easier time plowing then it would be if this was the wet and heavy stuff. I'm sure there are less heart attacks as well. I knew a few men who have passed from heart attacks while shoveling snow. Not good.

Besides, I have always considered it a rite of passage to be able to snow blow with the TORO 720. My son Max has said recently that he enjoys snow blowing. I know the feeling only to well.

There's something about that machine that makes you feel like a man. I know that sounds macho. But it's true. That machine is like a wild beast. You have to be able to control it and use your strength to push and pull through that deep stuff. It's a powerful snow beast.

This is me last week. There's some great footage of Max blowing snow in the new SFOD clip MARCUS in the video section. Be sure to watch it. It's all Black and White. I've put out three consecutive videos so far this winter. JUNO, LINUS, and MARCUS. This NEPTUNE storm has surf but it is brutally cold and windy. My guess is the swell won't stick around very long. Those west winds will knock it down. So if you are thinking about getting out there. The sooner the better.

This is my daughter's vehicle. She is away at school. And well, I was not about to dig out her vehicle if it's not being used. So there she sits. Encased in every winter storm since Christmas. I suppose there is a bit of beauty to this. I mean it is cool seeing how the snow naturally contours around her car. Hopefully this snow will all be
melted when she gets home in May.

Keeping our fingers crossed.

Don't forget. Anyone wanting to make a donation to the Meghan Evans fund can do so at any TD Bank.
Just walk into any TD Bank and ask for the Karen Evans
(Meghan's mom) Fund raiser.

There is another fund raiser in the works for February 22nd, 2015 at WALLYS in Hampton Beach. Stay tuned for more details.

"Ed's Corner" pic this week is from the summer of 2009. The surfer is Erica Nardone. One of the best women surfers here on the northern New England surf scene. No surprise there. She has been charging ever since she and her husband Matt moved here. 3 kids later she is still charging. And she has been submitting some really good surf pics. I have always said that the BEST surf photographers are surfers. Erica proves that point.

To see more of Ed's pics just hit the archives tab and scroll through the years and see some Ed's work. Be sure to pick up the new SFOD movie The COLD COAST and check out the extra feature of Ed O'Connell's gallery set to music.

Each week I will feature one of Ed's great pics from this blog.
*Click the photo above to see a larger version of Ed's Pic.

The COLD COAST is available at CINNAMON RAINBOWS, PIONEERS BOARD SHOP, ZAPSTIX, and SUMMER SESSIONS. You can also buy one from SURF FREE OR DIE by sending a money order or check for $20. Go to surffreeordie.com for ordering details.

Portions of the eventual DVD proceeds will go to the
WOUNDED WARRIORS PROJECT.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances

ISIS has now moved to within 5 miles of where the US Marines are based. That may not sound very close, but trust me, it's close enough. These evil sons of bitches must be stopped. I don't know a single person. Man or woman, who knows anything about the military who thinks and agrees with the president that we can
beat ISIS with no ground troops. It's just not going to happen.
They have more captives. Mostly Kurds, and they have threatened to burn them alive as well. We must all do something. Not just the US. The entire FREE World. We must join forces to stop them.

This is too close for comfort for the Marines stationed there.

OK once again, I'm backing off the REAL depressing news.
More fun with KSM time. Looks like KSM has been designated to test the safety of the long and dangerous icicles.

Please enjoy the weekly humiliation of the mastermind terrorist who killed 3,000 innocent civilians on September 11th, 2001.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM), the mastermind behind 9-11 the captured Al Qeada ICON is getting his weekly slap in the face. You're welcome KSM fans.

* Note to self: Must pick up a case of safety helmets at Home Depot this week.

(Below) I looked at the photo I shot of Roger Beal on the 10th (Marcus) and thought to myself..."Damn this looks familiar." Upon further inspection I realized. The pic reminded me of a photo that Michael Baytoff had taken of
me in 1988. I took advantage of my photoshop skills and created this piece. The more things change the more they stay the same.

We welcome all Surf Related pics from our Readers. Just make sure they are at least 900 pixels wide. If you have any OLD photos of local New England surfers and or of local New England surfing, we would love to see them and share them with our readers.

We can scan them for you. And we get them back to you undamaged. Trust me. We can do this...people love the older stuff. So if you have any, please send 'em along. If you have prints/slides we can scan them for you.

And we don't care if you shoot pics with with your cellphones. I mean it. Most of the images you see on the news and on the Internet were shot with them Smart Ass Phones. So shoot and ask questions later.

Winter Storm MARCUS in Black and White from SFOD/Ralph's Pic Of The Week February 10th, 2015.

My first B&W clip since the 80's. The local boys were tearing it up out there. Weston Rogers, Stevie O'Hara, Max Fatello, Dave Cropper, Kevin Grondin, Phil Carey, Peter Stokes, Casey Lockwood, and Roger Beal. The tune is by LZ and it kicks. Just one more in the winter storm series. Hope you like it.
